Product Innovation Engineer I (Operational Workflows)
SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION
Reports to (N+1; N+2): Lead, Product Innovation; Head, Operation Innovation and Performance
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Identify gaps and inefficiencies in existing functionalities
- Initiate, assess and seek approval from FOM for product enhancements
- Accountable for the delivery of product enhancements as per user requirements
- Implement configuration changes when required
- Organize and facilitate user feedback sessions
- Technical expert for product documentation
- Train and provide functional guidance to end users
- Manage day-to-day support of existing solutions with internal and external resources
- Collaborate with business SMEs to specify functional requirements (user stories, process flows, mockups, etc.)
- Ensure the Management of Change process is followed at all stages of the project implementation
JOB DIMENSIONS
- The Product Innovation (PI) team acts as the interface between the business (mostly FO, but this can be extended to other entities when the solution requires inputs or provides outputs to other entities) and Digital Business Solutions (DBS) for the implementation of new digital functionalities (software and hardware).
- In terms of day-to-day support, PI Engineer will interface directly with software developers, integrators and vendors, in alignment with DBS policies and processes.
- Through the product roadmap execution, the PI team generates value through cost savings gained via new ways of working, new digital tools and initiatives embedded, which should be higher than the implementation and maintenance costs for the delivered solutions (positive return on investment).
- By having a direct relationship with the end-users and the business Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), as well as a deep understanding of the business processes, the PI Engineer defines requirements for enhancements and new use case development which will feed into the overall product development strategy for digital solutions within their product area.
- A technical reference (subject matter expert) for functionalities covered in their product area, the PI Engineer specifies the functional details to be included in project scopes.

ACTIVITIES
HSE
- Promote a safety culture within the team, including NOC safety initiative such as Incident Free and the HSE Golden Rules.
- Raise awareness in NOC and external stakeholders of Flare gas emissions and energy efficiency and promote a positive image of NOC as a responsible operator.
- Manage any actions arising from internal or external audits pertaining to the team’s scope and close out in required time frame.
Day-to-Day Support
- Attend to end-users’ requests, which can be:
- Issues: triage non-functional errors and liaise with support team to resolve for the business (eg. connection issues, performance issue…)
- Bugs: identify functional bugs and escalate to support team (analytics, calculation…)
- Data: provide data extracts and identify and rectify data errors (data quality…)
- Access: point of contact for new users and elevating existing user permissions, e.g. validate access and approval before request is issued to IS Service Desk
- Track change requests and defects from users, identify business value and identify feasibility
- Liaise with IS as well as external vendors and integrators for the adjustment of existing software applications and databases to accommodate changes in workflows and processes
- If applicable, make configuration changes based on business process requirements
- Review configuration changes and liaise with end users to ensure implemented solution is fit for purpose
- Train end users and provide specific guidance on product functionalities
- Be site support oriented and perform regular offshore visits
Product Development
- Liaise with business in the design, implementation and roll-out of new product functionalities in line with product roadmap
- Review requirements from end users and SMEs to ensure consistency with existing use cases and product implementation strategy
- Act as Product Owner to validate enhancements and prioritise activities
- Liaise with DBS Project Manager and external resources to ensure project delivery as per agreed scope, cost and timeline
- Review enhancement implementation to ensure implemented solution is fit for purpose
- Contribute to product roadmap with feedback on defects and issues, user adoption and pain points, and business process changes
- Contribute to prioritization of new use cases for implementation sprints based on business value
- Review technical implementation to ensure requirements are fulfilled before UAT
- Focus on cost control, propose appropriate analysis and actions to optimize the costs
Data Governance
- Specify and maintain functional requirements so as to:
- Decrease effort spent in data mining and verification
- Enhance decision making and reporting processes
- Allow data traceability and auditability
- Retain and migrating the required historical data
- Maintain data accessibility and confidentiality
- Escalate system changes that affect data outputs to the relevant Data Stewards
- Configure master data and maintain cross-functional overview of data
Technical Expertise on Operational Workflow tools and applications
- Support users in providing a coherent view of the field performance through all applications and analytical tools
- Maintain functional design documentation (as-built)
- Review implementation to ensure requirements are fulfilled
- Suggest and implement continuous improvement opportunities
- Lead innovation by exploring, investigating, recommending and benchmarking technologies
All staff must be willing to participate in crisis response training and to assist during emergency response situations if required.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
- Office-based with occasionally offshore trips
- Provide Senior Product Engineer (OW) with regular reports on user adoption and project progress
- Provide PI Lead with regular reports on support activities and project outcomes
- Proactively take responsibility of self-progression by keeping abreast with latest developments, knowledge and innovations in relevant expertise
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field such as applied mathematics, engineering, or computer science, or any technology related field
- 5 years of direct exposure to oil & gas operations
- 2 years of experience managing projects
Competencies:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to be able to convey technical messages to non-technical departments and personnel leading to positive collaborations and the overall improvement of business performance
- Ability to effectively present information (clear, concise, engaging and convincing)
- Practical understanding of product management methodologies
- Exceptional analytical skills, having worked with large and complex datasets
- Understanding of upstream onshore/offshore operations and processing facilities a plus
- Result-driven, creative thinker, self-motivated and proactive
- Team player, resilient, highly organized
- Practical knowledge of databases and petroleum applications
- Practical knowledge of real-time process data flows and systems (SCADA, historians)
- General understanding of process control systems (HMI and historization):
- Vendors: ABB, Siemens, Yokogawa
- PLCs
- OsiSoft PI DA
- Experience in scripting (VBA, SQL, etc.) or developing software a plus
- Project experience with MS Project and proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; MS Visio experience a plus
